Understanding the metrics behind our status checks.
DNS Information
We query authoritative nameservers to verify A, AAAA, CNAME, and NS records. This helps identify if an outage is caused by DNS propagation issues or actual server downtime. We also check the Time To Live (TTL) values to understand caching behavior.
SSL/TLS Certificate Status
Our system validates the SSL certificate chain to ensure secure connections. We check:
- Certificate validity dates (Not Before / Not After)
- Issuer trust chain
- Common Name (CN) and Subject Alternative Names (SAN) matching
- Revocation status via OCSP or CRL
Server Response Metrics
We measure the Time To First Byte (TTFB) and total download time. These metrics are crucial for understanding server performance and potential bottlenecks. We also analyze the Content-Length header to detect "soft 404s" or incomplete page loads.
